Development in the 1950’s

In the 1950’s houses were still being developed in the area – for example a house was built on The Drive in 1952. The land having been sold to Francis William King in 1946

Note: A few years earlier the old drive to Russell House ran from South Lodge – behind the present houses on the north side of The Drive.

‘Service Road’ developed

Photograph of a local resident in 1956 – on his first day of Cassiobury School.  The pile of bricks on left in background was for the building of 306 Hempstead Road (Service Road) which was bought by S J Cooper in 1957.

 “Transfer of land in 1957 made between Russells Estates by the direction of S & K Darvill Ltd and the purchaser Stanley John Cooper. Restrictive covenants referenced from 1934 conveyance between Russells Estates and Benskins.”

Hemingford Way and Hampden Way

“Houses on Hemingford Way and Hampden Way were built in two phases during the 1950s-1960s as residential accommodation for police officers, while Lebanon Close and the southern end of Greenbank Road were developed for the same reason in 1975.” (CoA, 2011)
