From the number of comments it is clear local people had many memories of the shops;

  • We were lucky to have such a good selection of shops just round the corner. No matter what you wanted Harrops always seemed to have it, even if it was somewhere in the back. I think One of the Assistants was called Richard”
  • “I lived in Goodwood Avenue in late 70s/early 80s, these were the shops of my childhood. The wool shop which I’m sure had some kind of orange film on the windows, the chippy, the tyre shop and as a child I remember a shop that just seemed to have stone statues, near the butchers – as an adult I’ve no idea what it was!!”
  • “135 Courtlands was a Radio Shop , a Laundrett, Courtlands Carpets, Fish tank, Green grocers, Aquarius Hair Works. 133 has been an Wool shop ,Estate Agents, Florist, and Cafe.”
  • The wool shop !! Even when osmans changed to Londis everyone called it osmans. Used to sit in launderette to keep warm in the winter those dryers gave out heat !!!”
  • “Years ago, the post office used to be in the paper shop on the other side of Goodwood ave.The shop was called Morley’s.”
